I enjoy infusing my work with symbolism. The camera and the bust of Hermes contrast the classical ideal with the contemporary image. The coin that I hold in my hand is ambiguous- it suggests a medium of exchange and an element of chance, two functions served by the Greek god Hermes. Looking at traditional art influenced how I came to appreciate beauty. I also find beautiful a heightened awareness during a personal experience. Traditional and modern techniques were used to create this drawing. I carefully choose what kind of technique will best contribute to the image that I want to communicate. I feel traditional art can connect us to our past while contemporary images tie our viewpoints together in a modern light.
