Pillow Talk is a photograph of my brother Nicholas. This image is from an ongoing series that depicts the lives of my father, sister, and two brothers as they take on the burden of my mother’s deteriorating mental state. This work represents an extended look at the physical and psychological currents within their domestic environment that question the sanctity of family life and domestic comfort. The photographs in this series are a visual representation of the internal dilemmas associated with this entropic state. I am interested in portraying how my mother’s absence influences the condition of the space and the emotional state of my family members. The images are an exploration of how an individual identity is shaped and altered by one’s familial relationship.
