Jarod Lew first met Audrey after the death of her father. It was a time in her life when he says “strangers weren’t welcome.” Persistent loss and isolation are themes that run through Lew’s work. He uses his camera as a tool to shift from the individual to the universal experience, explaining, “there is a need for absolute understanding, a hunger shared by all of us.” His portraits capture quiet, introspective moments but also have a theatrical quality in their dramatic lighting and staged compositions that are influenced by Lew’s study of graphic design.
