Michael Meadors has transitioned from using oil and acrylic paints to creating meticulous graphite drawings in the past five years. Graphite allows him to capture and experiment with lighting and sculptural form and add “tenderness and depth to the shallowness on display.” This portrait is of Meadors’s friend Agnes, whom he met during an artist residency in Berlin. He drew her wearing the dress she had designed for her upcoming wedding. During this time Meadors was also working on his Maiden America series, which critiques the lifelessness of fashion advertising imagery.
